Meet the Faculty at Texas Executive Education

Jim Nolen

Jim Nolen’s research and teaching interests include small business and entrepreneurship and corporate finance, including business valuation, and mergers and acquisitions. Jim has taught both undergraduate and graduate classes at UT since 1980. He has taught in the Mexico City and Dallas Executive MBA programs as well as IMADEC University in Vienna. Mr. Nolen is also active in the education of minority and women business owners. Jim is the faculty advisor for the Venture Fellows Practicum and the Entrepreneurs Society. 
 
Jim has extensive experience teaching Executive Education where he lectures regularly in both custom and public enrollment programs, including the popular Accounting and Finance for Non-Financial Managers. He has designed and taught executive development programs for several corporations including Texas Instruments, Dell, Essilor of America, BMC Software, Motorola, Shell Oil, M.D. Anderson, State Farm Insurance, Vought Aircraft and USAA among others.
 
During his 25-year tenure at UT, he has received many teaching excellence awards. He has made the Faculty Honor Roll every semester since its inception in 1999 and has been selected for the teaching award for Best Ability to Link Theory and Practice for seven consecutive years by the Graduate Students Association. Jim is a past recipient of the Mary and Hank Harkin Award for Effective Teaching and is a two-time recipient of the Fawn and Vijay Mahajan Award in Executive Education. 
 
Mr. Nolen is also President of CFO Services, Inc., a business consulting firm specializing in business valuation, mergers and acquisitions, raising capital, and financial analysis and planning. He has served as CFO of a lighting manufacturing company and Vice President of a refuse disposal company, where he coordinated the company's sale and merger. He serves on numerous Boards of Directors of privately-held companies as well as a financial institution.
