2013 National Real Estate Challenge

Challenge Overview:
Graduate student teams from top schools compete for highest honors and cash awards in a real estate case competition. They will provide a 20-minute case presentation to a judging panel of real estate professionals. The 2012 participating schools were Berkeley, Chicago, Columbia, Cornell, Darden/UVA, Duke, Georgetown, Kellogg/NYU, McCombs/UT, Michigan, NYU, UCLA, UNC-Chapel Hill, USC, Vanderbilt and Wharton.

Format:
Each school may enter one team of up to six currently enrolled graduate students. During the week of the competition, each team receives the case by email at a set time, just days prior to the competition event, and must prepare a 20-minute presentation on the case. The competition takes place at the University of Texas at Austin, and it's judged by accredited real estate professionals from nationally recognized companies. All travel and accommodation expenses are the sole responsibility of each participant.
Case Overview:
The case is custom-written and provided by a private real estate investment institution. Student teams will evaluate an investment opportunity, focusing on myriad issues surrounding the acquisition, financing and tenanting of the property. Representatives of the case-providing institution will present a retrospective on the actual investment and its performance following the completion of the competition.
