AICPA Honors Top CPA Examination Performers with the Elijah Watt Sells Award
One of our own alumni, Emily Kiser, now currently employed with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dallas, received this honor.
The 2010 award was presented to candidates who obtained the 10 highest cumulative scores on all four sections of the computerized Uniform CPA Examination. In 2010, several candidates received identical cumulative scores, which resulted in a tie and increased the total number of 2010 winners to 19. These candidates completed testing during 2010 and passed each exam section on their first attempt. More than 103,000 candidates sat for the Exam in 2010.
Congratulations Emily Kiser!

2011 Deloitte FanTAXtic National Competition
2nd Place!
The national competition of the Deloitte tax case competition was held this weekend in Dallas. Our team of graduate and undergraduate students, lead by faculty advisor Teri Holbrook ranked 2nd out of 85 teams.
The competition was a great opportunity to challenge our students and share accounting approaches with other top name accounting programs, including Brigham Young, USC, Univ of Missouri, St. John Fisher College, Baylor and Fordham Univ. Along with the great networking opportunity our team won $1,000 for each student and $5,000 for the Accounting Program. They rose to the challenge of writing a technical memo, researching issues and delivering a presentation under strict time constraints, with stellar results.
We are very proud of the work they did together as a team to represent our school and our accounting program.
National Speakers
Professor Michael Granof presented his research in New York, October 31st, 2011.
As part of the Emanual Saxe Distinguished Lecturer Series he spoke at Baruch College to colleagues and students.
His speech “Can there be Government Accounting without Accountability” was met with resounding positive response.
As one of our many traveling speakers, Granof continues to make more connections to our accounting peers around the globe.
2011 Deloitte FanTAXtic Regional Competition
Congratulations to Andrew Townsell, Angela Deng, Elizabeth Broussard, Sarah Neff and Yolanda Han for their successful regional performance on the new Deloitte FanTAXtic case competition. They are one of eight teams advancing to the national competition to be held on November 18-20 at Deloitte University.
The team configuration is one graduate student, two seniors, and two sophomores. Their advisor, Professor Terri Holbrook, praised their poise and professionalism. For the final set of facts during the competition, the students worked on their own without help from their advisor, and during the Q&A had thoughtful answers to all the Deloitte partners’ questions. Terri says she could not be more proud of them, and especially the way the more senior students coached our sophomores, who have never had a tax course. All five students participated fully in the research and presentation, and they were most impressive.
Please also thank Terri Holbrook for her efforts. Advising such case competitions is a labor of love and service, and she brings her own exceptional professionalism to the students as a great role model. Thank you.
Wish them luck as they advance to the National Competition held November 18th- 20th at Deloitte University .
