MSITM Advisory Council
The MS Information Technology and Management Advisory Council is a group of industry leaders dedicated to advising the MSITM leadership and staff on the growth and ongoing development of the program.

About the council

A lot of the things we do in our advisory council meetings have to do with what we’re seeing in the industry and what employers are looking for. We want to make sure students get that experience so that they can provide that value add when they get to a company.

Ursula Turner, Program Manager at Meta, MSITM Advisory Council Member

What the advisory council does

The MSITM advisory council is a hand-picked group of industry professionals who  work with program leadership and faculty to ensure the MSITM program continues to meet the needs for future tech professionals and leaders. It consists of  corporate leaders and program alumni who have work experience in the relevant domains that MSITM students will enter upon graduation. They bridge the gap between the classroom and industry to help students successfully prepare for and pursue new career opportunities.

MSITM advisory council members engage with the program and our students in many ways, including:

  • Collaborating with faculty and staff on the design of the MSITM curriculum to ensure that it aligns with what employers are looking for.
  • Networking with students at special events and providing connections with recruiting companies.
  • Providing mentorship and expertise to students through industry panels, guest speaking opportunities, and one-on-one opportunities.
  • Partnering with student teams for the capstone project, where students gain hands-on experience working with one of our company partners to build technical solutions to solve real business problems.

Hear from the MSITM advisory council

MSITM has an advisory council formed of industry experts and people who’ve been working in their particular industry for decades, helping guide the program in curriculum development, recruitment, and helping connecting students with business problems and business entities out there that need talent. I’ve had the luxury of working with a few students we hire directly from the program.

“When I talk to CEOs and CTOs of companies, most of them are still trying to get up to speed on technology. This program enables students to have a broad understanding, not just of AI itself, but how do you apply that to an organization. When I look at this program from an employer’s perspective, these are skill sets that are relevant.”

“I truly enjoy giving back. I love meeting students and, especially, the mentorship aspect—getting to hear about their career goals and helping connect them with the right opportunities and people in the community. Building bonds with them and supporting them throughout their careers is incredibly rewarding to see.”
