FAQs
Do I have to take all five MSI courses?
Students who have not previously completed an MSI course must enroll in all five to participate. Students who have completed one or two eligible courses may participate but will not repeat those courses. Students who have completed three or more MSI courses are not eligible for the program.
Can I take other courses while participating in MSI?
We strongly recommend that students not enroll in additional courses, including asynchronous courses, during MSI. The structured schedule, accelerated coursework, and required program activities demand a significant time commitment.
How much time should I expect to spend on coursework outside of class?
Is MSI offered online?
What is the weekly schedule?
Classes meet Monday–Thursday from 9 a.m.–noon and 1–4 p.m. Friday classes meet from 9 a.m.–noon and 1–2:30 p.m.
Can I participate if I have scheduling conflicts?
Students must attend all required classes and orientation. Planned scheduling conflicts cannot be accommodated. Students should communicate directly with MSI faculty and staff about absences caused by illness or an emergency.
When will I receive an admission decision?
Applicants who apply by the December 18 priority deadline will receive a decision approximately two weeks after the spring semester begins. Applications submitted after the priority deadline are reviewed on a rolling basis until the program is full. The final application deadline is March 22.
Does completing MSI automatically earn the Business Foundations Minor or Elements of Business Certificate?
No. Eligible UT Austin students must apply separately for the Business Foundations Minor or Elements of Business Certificate through the minor and certificate application system.
What grades must I earn for MSI courses to count toward the minor or certificate?
Will MSI courses affect my UT GPA and in-residence credit?
For UT Austin students, MSI courses appear on the official academic record and are included in the UT GPA after final grades are submitted. They also count as in-residence coursework toward the applicable minor or certificate requirements.
