Course Equivalency Petition

If you would like to request business minor credit for a course that you think is equivalent to one of the courses listed on this page, you may fill out a petition at this web site: Business Minor Course Equivalency Petition

***IMPO‚ÄčRTANT***  Only students enrolled under the 2016-2018 or later UT Academic Catalog are eligible to earn the Business Minor. If you enrolled in the 2014 - 2016 UT Academic Calendar or earlier, please see the Business Foundations Certificate Page

Application Process

  • Step 1: Apply for the Business Minor Program here: Business Minor Application
  • Step 2: Select "B A Business Administration" in the rop down menu, and then "Business Minor"
  • Step 3: Begin taking your BFP courses. (You do not have to be accepted to the Business Minor to take the courses, and any courses taken before applying will be applied once application is complete.)


To earn the Business Minor, students will need to complete the following coursework:

  • MIS 302F - Foundations of Management Information Systems 
  • ACC 310F - Foundations of Accounting
  • FIN 320F - Foundations of Finance (starting Fall 2017 ACC 310F will be a pre-requisite for FIN 320F)
  • LEB 320F - Foundations of Business Law
  • MAN 320F - Foundations of Management 
  • MKT 320F - Foundations of Marketing 

One of the following courses can be used as a substitute for LEB 320F, MAN 320F, or MKT 320F

  • BA 320F - Foundations of Entrepreneurship
  • IB 320F - Foundations of International Business


Coursework Breakdown

Lower Division Courses:

Lower Division courses can be completed in-residence, transferred from other colleges and universities, through University Extensions or satisfied via Credit-by-Exam

MIS 302F – Foundations of Management Information Systems or Equivalent 

ACC 310F – Foundations of Accounting 

  • Alternatively, students can take BOTH ACC 311- Financial Accounting AND ACC 312 - Managerial Accounting

Upper-Division Courses:

Upper-division Texas BFP courses must be taken either in-residence, through University Extension, or through an approved study abroad program (unless otherwise specified). Upper-division courses may NOT be satisfied with advanced placement credit. To enroll in Upper-division courses a student MUST have upper-division standing (at least 60 credit hours).

FIN 320F – Foundations of Finance 

  • Starting Fall 2017 ACC 310F will be a pre-requisite for taking FIN 320F

LEB 320F - Foundations of Business Law

  • Business Law CANNOT be taken abroad

MAN 320F – Foundations of Management

MKT 320F - Foundations of Marketing


One of the following courses can be used as a substitute for LEB 320FMAN 320F, or MKT 320F:

BA 320F - Foundations of Entrepreneurship - Currently only offered through University Extension

IB 320F - Foundations of International Business - 

Alternatively students can take IB 350 - International Trade

Additional Business Minor Requirements:

  • Student must be enrolled in the 2016 - 2018 or later UT Academic Calendar
  • At least a 2.0 overall UT GPA
  • At least a 2.0 overall Business Foundations coursework GPA
  • All courses completed and passed with a letter grade (We will accept D- as long as the overall BFP GPA remains above a 2.0)
  • At least 50% of Business Foundations course work must be taken in-residence or through the McCombs Summer Institute. In-residence DOES NOT include University Extension, Transfer credit, or Credit-by-Exam
