Network Access

Computer Services and ITS provide both wired and wireless network access throughout the School of Business in support of the college's academic, research and administrative missions. Computer Services is responsible for all network connections within the CBA, GSB and UTC buildings and also for maintaining a connection to the campus network and internet through ITS.

The McCombs network is maintained by our Network and Technical Support teams. The Network team is also responsible for maintaining the security of our network and performs routine monitoring of network traffic and threats.

Public Network Access

Network access is available in almost all of the public spaces within the McCombs School of Business. High-speed wired network ports are found in all computer labs, the Reliant Reading Room, Atrium, Cohort classrooms, and other places throughout the building. Wireless (802.11A/N/G) network access is available in all faculty offices, classrooms, and public spaces of the business school.

Access to the Public Network is restricted to the University students, faculty, staff, and sponsored guests through the Public Network Authentication System. Any user who attempts to access University computing resources or the Internet via the Public Network must use a Web browser to authenticate using their UT EID or a Guest ID.

Students, Faculty, and Staff use their UT EID to log in, or authenticate. Your UT EID must reflect that you are a current student, faculty, or staff member of the University.

Sponsored Guests (such as official visitors, conference attendees, lecturers, etc.) use Guest IDs provided by a host or sponsor to log in.

VPN Services

A virtual private network (VPN) connection lets students, faculty, and staff securely connect to the campus network from any computer that has an Internet connection. A VPN connection creates a secure "tunnel" that can be used to check e-mail, send files, and perform other on-campus actions. Some McCombs network resources, such as H: Drives, can only be accessed from off-campus by use of the UT VPN.

Access For Visitors

Sponsored Guests (such as official visitors, conference attendees, lecturers, etc.) use Guest IDs provided by a host or sponsor to log in. This temporary user name and password combination enables you to connect to the Public Network.

Guests: If you are a guest at the University and need access to the Public Network, contact the conference coordinator or the department with which you will be working. Your sponsor can obtain a Guest ID for you.

Sponsors: If you want to sponsor a Guest ID for a visitor, contact Computer Services Service Desk or submit a support ticket.

Faculty/Staff Access

Computer Services provides network support and access for faculty, staff and departments. Technical Support can assist in planning or expanding network access, troubleshooting connections, or setting up additional connections.
