Angela McDermott

Angela McDermott is a management lecturer in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. An experienced, purpose driven human resources executive and coach, she has been the principal at her firm, McDermott Group Consulting LLC since 2016. Her current focus is helping emerging leaders accelerate their development, especially women and those from historically disadvantaged groups.

She previously served as a human resources leader to help companies in all stages of growth attract, develop, and retain key talent — from young, fast-growing organizations to Fortune 500 firms. Her corporate experience at Procter & Gamble, Dell Technologies, Convio, and other technology businesses focused on the people side of the business. She brings her experience in in people research, leadership development, and leading the human resource function into her classrooms to engage and inspire.

McDermott earned her Ph.D. in Education in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the University of Houston, where she also completed her undergraduate and master’s degrees in psychology.

She formerly chaired the board of directors at Lifeworks, an Austin nonprofit advocating for youth and young adults on the path to self-sufficiency.

McDermott is an avid marathon runner and outdoors enthusiast who also enjoys cooking for family and friends, traveling, and creative projects.
