Paul Damien is the B.M. Rankin Jr. Professor of Business in the IROM department at McCombs School of Business. His research interests lie at the intersection of mathematics, Bayesian statistics, and applications in business, engineering, and stochastic optimization. Professor Damien has received numerous “Outstanding Teacher” nominations at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, where he was also awarded the Dean’s Outstanding Research Award. He is also a recipient of the McCombs’s School of Business Dean’s Research Fellow.

Damien is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society of England. He is twice recipient of the United Kingdom Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council Research Award, and was awarded the United Kingdom Overseas Visiting Fellowship by the Royal Statistical Society of England. Damien has been a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Economics in the University of Groningen, Netherlands. Dr. Damien consults for several companies in a variety of industries world-wide.

Most recently, Dr. Damien was a co-recipient of a 3-million dollars NIH grant to research H1N1. (http://blogs.mccombs.utexas.edu/magazine/2010/01/13/diagnosing-the-h1n1-pandemic/). Dr. Damien has over 75 publications in leading international journals, and proprietary papers in industry. His book, Help!: Debunking the Outrageous Claims of Self-Help Gurus was published in September 2008.
