Annabelle Roberts

Annabelle Roberts is an assistant professor of marketing in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. Before joining McCombs, she earned a Ph.D. in behavioral science from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Roberts studies judgment and decision making in the context of consumer behavior, with a focus on motivation and self-control. In her research, she explores what leads people to make more patient decisions and feel more patient while waiting. She also studies the consequences of self-disclosure and aims to provide insight on how people can share sensitive information with others in a way that increases trust and reduces negative judgments.

Her ongoing research projects include:

  • Why people are impatient to incur costs, such as completing more work and paying more money sooner instead of waiting to work and pay less later.
  • When and why people feel impatient while waiting (e.g., when waiting in line for a product, for a doctor’s appointment to start, or to receive election results).
  • How to share success in a way that decreases perceptions of bragging.
