The Risk Management Minor program requires eighteen semester hours of coursework.

Risk Management Requirement
Requirement 1 (3 hours)
R M 357E or URB 321R: Introduction to Risk Management
Requirement 2 (3 hours)
Choose one of the following:
- R M 369K: Managing Employee Risks and Benefits
- R M 377: Property-Liability Risk Management and Planning
Accounting Requirement
3 hours
Choose one of the following:
- ACC 310F: Foundations of Accounting (for non-business students)
- ACC 311: Fundamentals of Financial Accounting (for business students)
- ACC 311H: Fundamentals of Financial Accounting: Honors (for CBHP students)
Note: ACC 312 is a prerequisite to enroll in FIN 320F and a corequisite to enroll in FIN 357.
Finance Requirement
Choose one of the following:
- FIN 320F: Foundations of Finance (for non-business students)
- FIN 357: Business Finance (for business students)
- FIN 357H: Business Finance: Honors (for CBHP majors)

Admission Criteria
Admission to the program is based on a student’s overall academic record, including, but not limited to:
- Hours and number of courses taken in residence,
- Demonstrated interest in risk management, and
- Overall UT GPA
In addition, students seeking admission to the Risk Management Minor program must:
- Be a full-time, degree-seeking UT Austin undergraduate student
- Follow the guidelines outlined in the application procedures
Application Procedures
The Risk Management Minor is available to both business and non-business majors pursuing their degree under the 2020-2022 catalog or later. No supplemental materials are required to apply. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
How to Apply
Step 1: Visit Registrar’s Office Document Submissions to start your application.
Step 2: Enter your EID.
Step 3: From the “Field of Study” pull-down menu, choose “Risk Management”.
Step 4: Confirm your choice and submit the application.
Important
Once admitted, you must contact your academic advisor to have the Risk Management Minor or Certificate attached to your degree profile. The credential cannot be awarded to you when you graduate from UT Austin if it has not been added to your degree profile.
