Application Review Process

The MSTC Admissions Committee reviews applications on an individual basis looking at all aspects of the applicant's professional and academic background. The committee seeks to assess an individual's passion for technology commercialization and/or entrepreneurship. The committee carefully considers each completed application, with particular attention to the following:

    • Personal essays
    • Work history
    • Post-MSTC goals
    • Undergraduate performance
    • Letters of recommendation
    • Test scores
All of these components are considered holistically; no specific weight is assigned to any criterion and no formulas are used. Our ultimate objective is to get a firm sense of each applicant as a person in order to determine if he or she is a good fit for the Texas MSTC Program. We carefully search for those applicants whose work and educational experience will allow them to make full use of the opportunities and resources afforded by the program in order to help them fully develop their skills in technology commercialization.

Deferred Admission

Applicants who have been granted deferred admission from the previous year will need to reapply by completing another online application and submitting the $65 US ($90 International) application fee by admissions deadlines. Deferred applicants are encouraged to submit their application and fee early, as a reserved seat in the class cannot be guaranteed.

Ready to Apply

The application process is a large undertaking. Each class is selected from a competitive pool of applicants with unique professional and life experiences. It is the diversity of this group that enhances classroom discussions and builds a strong team camaraderie. We have outlined our application process on our How to Apply page.
