"How to Develop and Use Surveys to Improve your Organization"

The proverb, "What gets measured gets managed," has been attributed to Peter Drucker, the great management consultant and educator. Surveys are one method commonly used to measure factors important to organizations. For instance, they can be effectively utilized to gain key insights into the people who are served. Customer satisfaction surveys are often used to identify product and service strengths and weaknesses, to ultimately make improvements. Employee surveys are frequently used to determine employee engagement in order to identify ways of increasing job satisfaction and job performance. However, creating a valid survey and deploying it effectively can be challenging. This webinar will focus on the effective use of surveys to assess customer and employee satisfaction. Scientifically based techniques for survey item development will be reviewed in a straightforward manner so that participants can readily apply these approaches. The presentation will also review data visualization methods that enhance the interpretability and communication of survey results.

About James Pann:
James Pann received his BBA in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin. He obtained his M.S.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling, and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami.

Dr. Pann leads EvalNetwork, a research and evaluation consulting firm, since 2000. Dr. Pann is also faculty Nova Southeastern University in south Florida since 2002. He teaches:  Quantitative Research Methods, Program Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Survey Research, and Statistical Methods.

Dr. Pann is interested in the use of program evaluation approaches to study and improve programs in all types of organizations. He is a licensed psychologist in Florida and an active member of the American Evaluation Association.

Executives and business owners dread having difficult conversations that address poor performance, confrontational relationships, stress-inducing, and other negative behaviors. They are a necessary, albeit undesirable part of the job. Understanding how to handle difficult conversations can turn them into opportunities to deepen trust, encourage collaboration, and stimulate learning for all parties involved.

In this interactive presentation, Wendy Nolin will address the myths and misconceptions about having difficult conversations. Texas Recruitment + Interview Services (TRIS) is a campus-wide resource supporting companies and organizations recruiting at UT by providing interview space, career center connections and one-stop recruiting access. Our employer connections benefit UT Austin students and alumni with the increased number and diversity of opportunities we facilitate and make accessible via our career center partners.

Sanger Learning & Career Center

The Sanger Learning & Career Center offers library access and counseling services to alumni who graduated within the last 12 months. They offer assistance for recent graduates who are unsure about what career direction to pursue.
