The Best Austin Startups

Several focused students

Our Accelerator Companies are rigorously vetted in the Spring and Fall before even joining the cohort. Then we match those companies with graduate students to perform independent market validation. During Venture Expo, we showcase the current cohort and invite the investment community to attend.

See the best startups that Austin and Central Texas have to offer in a fast-paced, high-energy setting. Find out which startups are raising money, which are seeking advisors and board members, and which are simply hitting it out of the park. Meet investors, entrepreneurs and the companies that are making our Texan economy proud.

This semester, the exposition will feature the 12 members of our Fall 2019 JBTVL Accelerator Cohort who comprise some of the best early-stage startups in the area. Additionally, we will feature a selection of our past years' JBTVL Accelerator alumni companies. You won't want to miss interacting with all of these amazing founders on the expo floor.

Attend the Student Investment Competition

A presenter greets her audience

Each semester we host an Investment Competition that is open to all UT Austin graduate students. Each team is a going concern planning to launch their startup within the next year. The next Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition will be held in December 6, 2019 in Rowling Hall from 9 AM until 5 PM.

The Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition (TVLIC) is designed to mimic the real-world process of raising venture capital. Graduate students from the University of Texas at Austin present their ideas for new businesses and receive invaluable feedback from entrepreneurs and investors. Many TVLIC competitors go on to launch their businesses. Successful competitors have included uShip, Ordoro and Qcue among others.

TVLIC gives away more than $58,000 a year in prizes during its fall and spring competitions. The competition is open to any UT Austin graduate student. For questions, please see the  Rules and FAQs or contact us at infoTVL@mccombs.utexas.edu
