Community & Collaboration

Cohort Experience

The collaborative and engaged student culture of the MBA program at Texas McCombs is by design. You’ll be placed into a Cohort – a group of Executive MBA peers with whom you’ll navigate the curriculum. The cohort model fosters a shared experience among students and open dialogue within the classroom.

Study Teams

Within your cohort, you’ll be matched up with a Study Team of 4 to 6 other students in your first year, each of whom bring different backgrounds and strengths to the group. You’ll work together and learn from each other as you tackle class assignments and business challenges.
DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER SERIES
Throughout the year, you’ll have a chance to hear from executives from both the private and public sectors as part of our ongoing Executive MBA Speaker Series. These lunchtime events deliver expert insights on a variety of specialized topics. The perspectives that guest speakers bring, plus the interchange of ideas that occurs, add an important, distinct dimension to your MBA education.

Student Organizations

You’ll have the opportunity to join or lead a student organization while completing your MBA to further enhance your connections and engagement. Student-led clubs and organizations give you the opportunity to build your network, expand your leadership skills, learn about a new career path, and make an impact on your classmates. Golub Capital Nonprofit Board Fellows

McCombs is proud to be part of the Golub Capital Nonprofit Board Fellows Network, giving select MBA students the opportunity to serve one-year as non‑voting board members for local nonprofit organizations. Fellows spend roughly 10 hours/month gaining hands-on governance experience (i.e., fiduciary duty, marketing, human resources, oversight, etc.). Fellows also complete a tailored strategic project and receive mentorship while joining a local and national network of socially driven leaders and alumni.

Graduate business council

The Graduate Business Council (GBC) provides a forum for student leaders to work directly with program leadership to oversee the development, improvement, and maintenance of a strong sense of community and pride within the Executive MBA program. The GBC should cultivate the values of community, philanthropy, and legacy. The GBC is the student government for all students enrolled in the Executive MBA program.

Graduate Women in Business

Graduate Women in Business (GWiB) strives to provide an atmosphere conducive to the professional and personal development of its members. GWIB’s goals include: improving the visibility of women in the McCombs School of Business, offering career development resources to its members, providing opportunities for its members to enhance the skills they need to remain competitive in the marketplace, connecting members to news stories and articles related to women’s issues in the workplace, acting as an informational resource for prospective McCombs students, and promoting a spirit of camaraderie among our members and women in the business community in a variety of social settings and events.

McCombs Ambassador Committee

The McCombs Ambassador Committee (MAC) plays a vital role in providing the admissions staff with a student perspective on the MBA admissions process. MAC members participate in many aspects of MBA admissions including planning and attending recruiting events and serving as a point of contact for prospective applicants. As current students who were recently in your shoes, MAC members are a source of insight into the program for you as a prospective student, and a source of constant feedback for our admissions office to ensure we are addressing your needs as potential applicants and future Texas McCombs MBAs.

Rowling Hall

Executive MBA classes take place at Rowling Hall on the UT-Austin campus—the home of the Texas McCombs MBA. Opened in 2018, this state-of-the-art facility, located near the heart of the campus and a mere five-minute walk from downtown Austin, is designed with your education in mind. Classrooms, meeting rooms, presentation spaces, career management offices, technology labs—all in one beautiful building.
