Program Overview

The Health Informatics & Health Information Technology (HIHIT) program is designed to prepare you for a variety of careers in Health IT, or to help you upskill and refresh your current skills if you’re already working in the field. The program includes up to four courses and hands-on training with electronic health record software systems, including a working health information exchange (HIE). Students also learn to analyze data using SQL and Tableau. There are two format options (certificate and non-certificate), allowing you to select the course format that best accommodates your schedule and needs.

9-Week Synchronous Program
Full-time, 9-week program designed for post-baccalaureate students. Expect to dedicate a minimum of 40 hours per week to this program. Application required.
Flexible Asynchronous Program
Flexible Asynchronous Program
Designed for those whose schedules won’t allow for the full-time program, or who wish to expand knowledge in a specific area of health informatics or health IT. No application required.

    Time Commitment

    • Minimum of 40 hours per week
    • Attendance at live sessions required (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm CST)
      • Each course requires 1-2 hours of work per day
      • 80-90 hours of content included in each course

      • Spring, summer, and fall semesters
      • Three courses available starting in Spring 2025
      • One additional course to be added in Summer 2025

      • Students who can commit to a 9-week full-time online program without competing obligations
      • UT Austin Junior or Senior, recent graduate and/or career pivoter able to attend class full-time
        • Working professionals not able to commit to the full-time program
